The Music Changes and my Kinesiology Career starts

On 2 July 2015 I started my training to become a Kinesiologist.

A few months earlier I had quit my job as a Manager of a local Neighbourhood Centre after some stressful situations. After seeking professional support I had an epiphany as I lay on a massage table and received my first ever kinesiology session. This was my calling. As I sat at Maroubra Beach afterwards, I decided I was going to become a Kinesiologist.

On 30 June of that same year I took a drive up the coast alone to attend a dance session with my sister in law. I had no idea what to expect. Little did I know at the time that the dance instructor was associated with the College of Complimentary Medicine where I was about to start studying my future career.

When I say Dance Class - don’t think ballet, hip hop, tango or classical. No this was in a large darkened hall, a circular “alter” in the middle, fruit, crystals, cards and candles adorned this centrepiece. Tribal beats, hypnotic sounds and intoxicating smells hit me as I walked into the space, totally unaware of what was going to happen, but in total trust and willingness.

This was a dance class where you truly danced like no one was watching. Afterwards, I found this poem below rose up inside me. This was in 2015. I now post this in 2021 after a pretty crazy 6 years. I looked at the meaning of the Black Swan in my “World Animal Dreaming” book and it reflects me and resonates my true self from 6 years ago and even more so today.

With a little nervousness, here is my poem….

The Music Changes
2 June 2015

A beautiful space of warming glows
A respected space
A nurturing space
Freedom to be me, the Goddess
To dance to rhythms, waves of sound
The beat caresses my body and soul.

I sway, I move, my hips throb to the beat
I glide through time, flying to the sounds
Stamp, hop, skip with child-like joy
The birth of the creative through the feminine belly of life.

 The music changes.
A didj, a drum, a bell
Every beat bringing a new sense of me
Creative, free spirited, my potential
Wrapped in the safe glowing space.

Another change.
Lifting on high, standing still,
Arms touch the earth
My huge black wings grow from my heart
My body moves upwards
The gracefulness of my flight as I soar and glide

The black swan lives in me
The magical mystery of the feminine
Ready to swoop with the depth of the beating drum
I float down, wings stretched up with pride
Amazed at my beauty and strength
Unwavering trust in a cloudless sky

 The music changes.
The skip and joy of a child's innocence
I embrace my sister, my guide through new waters; my equal
A child like me, we spin, hug, smile and giggle
Our eyes and hearts connect through the playfulness of sound
Together we find joy and fun, trust and respect

The music changes.
The beat, the flow, the movement
My body feels the heat,
My hair drips with the saltiness of my journey
Sound upon sound
Movement upon movement
Pulsing, exotic, erotic
I fold and sway, twisting to the earth
My perception shaping in the moonshine

I am open, vulnerable but connected to all
I am basking in warmth
The sweet sensuality
I lie grounded and at peace.
I am the black swan
I am the unknown, the rare and the magical
I am the emerging equal

 I am the Black Swan.
All unfolding with true potential.
