Primitive Reflexes

Primitive reflexes are like the “safe mode” of our nervous system. These are instant, automatic and they form the scaffolding of our
nervous system, learning, development, emotional regulation and movement. When these are impacted by trauma, injury, or illness,
the reflexes can “turn on” and have a significant impact on our cognitive, emotional and functional development.

They can impact your whole life…unless you get help to “turn them off”…which is what I do at Zode Kinesiology.

A young girl with brown hair in a ponytail, dressed in a colorful polka dot shirt, performs a plank exercise on a blue foam mat while a woman assists her by holding her shoulders.

Primitive reflexes are the scaffolding of life.
Are yours integrated or still active?

If you don’t know, come and get them assessed - it could change your entire life!

Ever wonder why babies startle, grasp your finger or turn their heads toward an out-stretched arm? These behaviours are primitive reflexes that emerge whilst in utero, and are fully present at birth. Primitive reflexes are automatic movements that assist in the birthing process, and are essential for babies survival, and provide training for movement and cognitive skills later in life.

By about 2-4 years old the primitive reflexes should be inhibited by the brain which allows for the further development. However if they don’t integrate it can have a significant impact on a child’s, and adults, life.

Our muscles need to move and work when we intentionally need them to. But when muscles obey an unconscious reflex, the activity we want becomes confusing and can’t develop into an automatic learned skill. This impacts our capacity to learn academically and emotionally…Think BIG emotions in kids.

If a child fails to develop this automatic motor control, they may show challenges with reading and writing, poor impulse control, or unable to regulate emotions. Change is unlikely unless the underlying primitive reflex integrated. If the reflex “turns on” in adult life due to concussion, whiplash, trauma or injury, it needs to be “turned off” again so life can continue with ease.

This is what I do at Zode Kinesiology in Maroubra.

Our clients have said…

  • “I never knew primitive reflexes could impact your life so much. I’m so glad I did a session because not only did I emotionally and mentally feel better; my physical body seemed to work better!”

  • “Zoe…WOW, this work with the primitive reflexes is astonishing. I always thought it took months to integrate a reflex but NO; your like a magician turning them off in one session!”

  • “I have had some anger issues, coordination problems and struggle with neurodivergence. I don’t know what Zoe did but when she held the two points on my head I feel my body changing.”

Primitive Reflexes allow connections between areas of the brain important for learning, behaviour, communication, and social emotional skills. Like steps of a ladder, each primitive reflex helps to develop the sequential pathways and connections needed for the next step
in the ladder of development.

The difference in your child may be instant. Consider booking a session for
yourself to see if you are being limited by retained primitive reflexes.
