The Yin and Yang of Healing

I often say that the body never lies. It always shows us the truth that the mind sometimes tries to cover up. Recently, during a session, I was settling her nervous system using harmonic rocking, her body began rocking with the flow of my hand movements. But at the same time, I sensed another part of her body pulling in the opposite direction. She opened her eyes, confused, and asked, “Why does it feel like I’m moving two ways at once?”

It’s a powerful question, and the answer is one that many people need to hear: when your body moves both with and against the healing, it’s not wrong or broken. It’s a sign that deep transformation is happening.

The Physical Response

On the surface, the rocking you feel in a kinesiology or energy healing session is often your nervous system settling. Think of it as your body finding rhythm again after holding tension. The physical body follows the safety of touch, intention, and energy as it entrains, just like how you might naturally sway when listening to calming music or holding a baby.

For my client, her body was clearly responding to the safety of the moment. Each movement forward was a release, a letting-go of something old.

The Subtle Energy Response

But healing doesn’t just happen in the muscles and fascia, it happens in the energetic layers that sit around and within us. That’s where I sensed this opposite pull.

Sometimes the emotional body isn’t quite ready to let go. Sometimes an old trauma imprint has become such a familiar companion that part of you still clings to it because you are gaining something from it; even when another part of you longs to be free. And sometimes the energetic body simply needs to move in a counter-direction to restore balance, like yin and yang working together.

This “other body” moving the opposite way isn’t sabotage. I see it as wisdom. It’s showing us where the tug of war between past and future still lives.

The Push–Pull of Release

As I felt this dual motion in my client I was surprised. I had not truly felt this before with such clarity. But in that moment, I knew my client was experiencing deep healing, with or without her knowledge. You see my client was on the verge of a major upleveling in her life.

Imagine standing at the edge of a big change in your life. Part of you is excited, ready to leap. Another part feels fear and wants to hold you back. That’s exactly what the body shows us in the duality of the body rocking: the part that is flowing into possibility and the part still gripping onto the familiar.

Far from being a problem, this is the body’s language of integration. You can’t release what you don’t acknowledge. By moving both ways at once, your system is saying, “Here’s what’s ready and here’s what’s still afraid.” Both are valid. Both are welcome. Both contribute to transformative shifts.

How I Work with it

In moments like this, my role is not to push one way or the other. Instead, I hold the space for both truths to exist.

I might say: “I can feel part of you moving with the release, and part of you pulling back. Can you notice that too?” Often, simply naming it brings relief. The protective part feels seen, heard and safe. The flowing part feels supported.

Sometimes I’ll invite the client to breathe into the tension, sending compassion to the part that’s holding on. Other times, I’ll use gentle corrections or tools such as sound, crystals, essential oils or acupressure to support the nervous system in finding balance.

The result is rarely dramatic. It’s more like a soft exhale. Suddenly, the opposing pull relaxes, and the body finds harmony again.

My Client’s Experience

The client I mentioned earlier had been doing the work on herself for a few years. She was now at a point of change; seeking a new direction in her career, adult children moving out of home, expanding into what her life means now without addiction.

In our session I had asked her “What irritates you about You?” As tears welled up, she deeply connected to that part of her that was holding on in fear. Consciously, she wanted to move forward in her life with clarity and courage. But deep down, subconsciously, part of her body still remembered the shame of past behaviour and beliefs. This was the part that came to the table that day to be transformed. This was the part that rocked the opposite way to her physical body.

We spoke; she realised the part that was in fear and gripping hold was her protector not fighting her in opposition to her flow. It was that part of her that was benefitting from holding onto the dysfunctional beliefs and shame. You see we all hold onto stuff that we know is not in our highest and best – until we no longer gain from holding on to it. And then we are ready to release.

That realisation changed everything. Instead of resisting the resistance, she softened into it. By the end of the session, she felt lighter, clearer, and more at peace with herself. The next day she sent me a text that read:

“Ohhhhh my Goodness what a Magical day I had today……A day of heart warming connection, spiritual conversation and shared wisdom with the type of clients I want to manifest and work with. 💜

I read your email this morning so uplifting and encouraging. 🙏 So thank you for providing the tools for me to offload more limiting beliefs yesterday, guiding and believing in the next steps on my journey. Love all that you offer so unconditionally.”

Both parts of her had come home back to herself, whole and aligned, and she was moving forward!

What It Means for You

If you’ve ever felt your body moving both ways during healing or feeling like part of you is missing or disconnected, part flowing, part resisting, please know this:

  • It’s normal. You’re not broken. You’re in the middle of deep transformation.

  • It’s wise. The resistant part is usually your body’s way of keeping you safe. It’s not the enemy, it’s a protector.

  • It’s temporary. With awareness and compassion, the two parts begin to align, and you find yourself moving fully into flow.

Healing is rarely a straight line. It’s more like a dance between release and protection, past and future, fear and possibility. But it is possible to bring these parts together. That’s my job at Zode Kinesiology.

How to Support Yourself

If you notice this in yourself whether during a session, in meditation, or even when making a life decision; here are a few gentle practices you can try:

  1. Acknowledge both sides. Don’t push the resistant part away. Say to yourself, “I see you. Thank you for protecting me. What do you want me to know?”

  2. Breathe into the tension. Imagine sending love to the part that feels stuck.

  3. Soften, don’t force. Healing doesn’t happen by pushing harder, it happens when we allow both sides to be seen and heard.

  4. Ask for support. Sometimes we need a safe witness to hold the space while we integrate. That’s where kinesiology, energy medicine, and intuitive healing can guide you.

The Gift of Two Directions

The most beautiful part of that session was watching my client’s face as she realised what her body was showing her. The confusion turned into understanding, and then into deep relief.

Healing doesn’t always look like instant release. Sometimes it looks like two parts moving in opposite directions until they find their way back home to each other. That moment of awareness is where the real shift happens.

So, if you find yourself pulled both ways, disconnected or out of flow, trust that you are exactly where you need to be. Your body is guiding you into integration, and every movement, even the ones that feel contradictory, have their purpose.

Final Words

At Zode Kinesiology, I see these moments every day. The body holds incredible wisdom. It speaks through movement, sensation, resistance, and flow. When we listen without judgement, without rushing, our body shows us not just where the pain is, but also where the possibility lives.

If you’re ready to move through old patterns, release what no longer serves you, and come home to your true self, even if it sometimes feels like two steps forward and one step back, I’d love to walk with you. Together, we can bring both parts of you into harmony, so you feel light, free, and whole again.
