Babies in Clinic: Safety = Trust

A wary toddler arrives at my clinic, tucked into her mum's shoulder, unsure of the world. Forty-five minutes later, she's lifting her arms to be held. Offering hugs to someone she'd only just met. This is what happens when we stop trying to earn a child's trust and focus on something more foundational first: safety.
