Do You Pray? Do You Listen?

I was walking Ooni, our little nutty beagaleier, at the park recently and in the distance I saw what I thought was a person in robes….praying.

Wow that is commitment, I thought. In the middle of a crowded park, people riding and walking past, exercises in their covid way and here is this person “praying”.

As it turned out it was this ol’ tree stump. But the angle that I arrived at it allowed my perspective to shift and I honestly thought – amazing, look at that person. So beautiful.

After I took this photo of the Praying Tree Stump, I was literally standing in a fairy ring; you know, when wild mushrooms grow in a circle, often after rain and causing the grass on the inside to die.

Fairies are thought to be mischievous or evil at times. By standing in a fairy ring, one can be lured into join the fairies in their wild dancing which feels like just a night of merriment but is in fact 7 years! At least that’s what the internet told me.

The thought crossed my mind – how lucky am I! dancing all night with fairies but then I thought of the connection to the praying tree stump.

The word MAGICAL came up. So, how do you connect to the magic in your world? How do you ask for help to something bigger than you?

Some people pray to a religious icon. Some pray, or connect, set intentions, or do affirmations. Some will do this to a belief, a culture, the universe, spirit, mother earth. We can “pray” to family or friends that have passed over.

Whoever or whatever you pray to, do it with intention. Be specific. Be clear on what you pray for. And then LISTEN, without judgement or question. Listen with an open heart and trust what you see, feel, sense, hear.

One thing I've realised is to “dream big” because dreams are expansive and connect to something greater than who we believe we are or what we are capable of.

I now believe more in the concept of the universe, the eternal spirit of the soul, and at times I pray to that. I don't put my hands in prayer position, kneel or look up to the heavens, because I believe what I pray to is within me and all around me. All connected. In those moments, I trust that the answers I sense are there to guide me. I listen.

My wooden tree stump, a woman praying, Mother Nature doing her best to tell us to stop, focus, ask for help, to nurture ourselves. The fairy ring connecting me to the warnings to be aware of, maybe simply alerting me to the idea of dancing freely all night long.

I use this awareness, intuition, prayer in clinic with my clients. I ask. It guides me. I listen and trust.

What are you praying for? Are you listening?
